Hi I'm Emma Cole

Hello! I’m EmmaI offer yoga classes, 1-2-1 sessions, small group sessions (for birthdays, treats or groups of friends), workshops and retreats.My aim is to send you away with a feeling of well-being, freedom and ease in the physical body, the mind and, of course, the heart.

 I have a Degree in Dance (2000) and started out working as a Professional Dancer who loved the freedom of expression that movement and performance offered and I toured around the UK and parts of Europe dancing mainly in large Opera Productions in Paris, Lille, Dijon, Ghent & Antwerp. Whilst training to be a Dancer at University, I became aware of Yoga and began attending classes. Soon Yoga became my constant companion.

Yoga kept me grounded and sane whilst working and travelling as a Dance Artist and helped me to know myself more deeply. I would return to yoga again and again whenever I felt lost or lonely or just when I simply needed a good stretch. Whilst I had wonderful and amazing experiences and opportunities as a Professional Dancer, eventually I decided that the competition in the Dance industry and lack of work security were not helping me to blossom as an individual.

I realized that I wanted spiritual practice to be at the heart of my life and found that I was able to combine this with my passion for movement. Movement and Dance to me had always been a way of expressing freedom and joy as well as being a way to express and cleanse myself of the tensions and struggles of being human. It was my way of connecting in a positive way to both the light and the dark in my own soul, letting it all be felt in it’s rich fullness and giving it all meaning through the embodied splendour and beauty of movement. It’s this honest connection to life itself (being human) that I feel speaks to my students the most and can be very life-affirming and healing…

10 years after taking up Yoga I pursued my growing desire to share it’s benefits and trained with Claire Missingham (also a former Dancer). in 2009 I received a 200hr teaching certificate and went on to become one of Claire’s assistants, a cover teacher at Triyoga London & mentor for her 2014 students. I have also undertaken trainings and workshops in a variety of styles with Shiva Rea (Vinyasa Flow), Sianna Sherman (Anusara), Sarah Powers (Yin Yoga), Max Strom, Ana Forrest (Forrest Yoga) & Uma-Dinsmore Tuli (Womb Yoga and Yoga Nidra) and with Bhante Bodhidhamma (Vipassana Meditation)

Spiritual Sculpt Classes are also informed by my experience in Dance and Somatic Practices such as Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique and my knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. Classes are inspired by my love of music and poetry.

VINYASA FLOW YOGA
 

In a Vinyasa Flow Yoga class, poses are linked together by the rhythmic ebb and flow of the breath & are often accompanied by beautiful music. The wave-like flow of breath & movement create a smooth, soft, steady & absorbing experience that echoes the rhythm of a heartbeat. This rhythmic syncopation between body and breath has a harmonising effect on the nervous system & the pulsing quality of the movement warms the body from the inside out. 

A Vinyasa Flow class feels like a gentle yet deep, warming, moving meditation. Classes journey progressively from warm-up to dynamic stretching through to quiet, longer holds. Muscle fibres & fascia become soft, springy, elastic & pliable & we ease joyfully into our mobility and flexibility. 

Vinyasa Flow Yoga classes often include Pranayama, Mudra, Meditation & Nada?Yoga (the yoga of divine sound). The enchanting elements of yoga are balanced with clear, anatomical alignment instructions & empowering bio-mechanical detail.
