Hi, I’m Michael Palmer and I’m 58 years old.

My first yoga class was in Koh Phangan, in Thailand in 2005, whilst on a gap year with my wife.  She had to drag me there against my will, kicking and screaming!

It turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life (woman always know what’s best for us guys).

We then spent every day, except Sundays, for the next four months, living and breathing yoga.

I had never been as happy, fit and supple, and developed a hunger for yogic knowledge. Upon my return to England I pulled a muscle during my first yoga class and made a promise to myself never to do yoga in England. I practiced yoga and meditation at home until 2013 when my wife once again dragged me kicking and screaming to a yoga foundation course at the Mayura Yoga Centre. During the foundation course I realised that my passion for yoga knowledge was renewed. A few months later we both started module one of the Teacher Training Course.  We are both now fully qualified Yoga Teachers.

Over the years, my body has been through the works with a few sport accidents and a repetitive strain from my work, causing me back problems and discomfort. I found that through flowing yoga sequences of asanas (postures) coordinating the movements with the breath to relax and stretch the muscles, ligaments and tendons, I was able to keep my body’s aches and pains at bay and now offer this practice to help my students in the same way.

As a yoga teacher, my first priority is “safety on the yoga mat”. Through a mix of Hatha Yoga and Tia Chi & Qi Gong, my classes aim to improve core strength and flexibility and to lengthen and strengthen the muscles supporting the spine, which become contracted over the years, causing great discomfort.
