Therapists available for Physiotherapy at Mayura: Physio Answers

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the treatment of pain or injury in any part of the body utilising a variety of techniques. These may include "hands on" treatments, acupuncture, electrotherapy and exercises. It also examines the possible causes of the problem and ways of managing it or preventing it from reoccurring in the future.

How can physiotherapy help me?

Your initial appointment is for one hour which includes a comprehensive assessment and initial treatment of your condition.
Initially you will be asked a variety of questions regarding your symptoms. For example, when and how they started and what makes them better or worse. You will also be asked about your work, lifestyle and general health.

Acupuncture and Physiotherapy

Our resident Physiotherapist Ann Petherbridge, Physio-Answers sucessfully uses acupuncture for the treatment of pain and stiffness in the body.

Using a combination of Chinese and Western concepts, Ann inserts very fine, sterile needles in various parts of the body to reduce pain, muscle tightness and tension knots (trigger points) and improve joint movement. The procedure is virtually painless and the majority of clients find it extremely relaxing. In fact it is not unusual for people to fall asleep whilst the needles are in place!
All details to be found at or call 01702 313104 .

The physiotherapist will then examine you. This may include areas that are not painful but may be contributing to the problem. It is therefore a good idea to bring some clothes that allow you to be examined and treated easily.

We will then discuss your diagnosis and the best way to treat it.

If the problem is not appropriate for physiotherapy or if further investigations are necessary then we will advise you accordingly and refer you on as appropriate.

Physio-Answers at Mayura are celebrating their fantastic team of Physiotherapists trained in acupuncture and raising awareness of how acupuncture with physiotherapy can keep you in the gym, yoga studio and even pain free at work!

Through an advanced knowledge of myofascial pain and the processes of inflammation and tissue healing, our acupuncture physiotherapists can safely and effectively employ a variety of needling techniques for the treatment of acute and chronic pain and injuries.

Acupuncture is able to safely reduce pain by stimulating the brain and central nervous system to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins, melatonin (which promotes sleep) and serotonin (to promote wellbeing), to name a few. By integrating acupuncture with physiotherapy the patient benefits from a holistic treatment of their pain or injury, including the development of an appropriate exercise and stretching programme.

So helping you become stronger, fitter and happier and enjoy an injury-free active lifestyle.
